Frogs and toads are excellent indicators of habitat quality, not just of their spawning sites, but also of adjacent uplands. These creatures are experiencing an unprecedented collapse in populations due to habitat loss, pollution, and novel diseases. This application uses cutting edge audio-recognition software to identify frogs and toads. By using modern social media and mobile device technology the goal of this research is to engage school groups and citizens scientists. We hope that the app will encourage new listeners to engage with frogs, in particular a younger audience that is currently under-represented in citizen-science projects.
